“After a successful career in insurance, I took a leap of faith into healthcare because I wanted to help others. I was drawn to the field when my mother was on hospice care with Gentle Shepherd. My nursing career began in wound care and continued in oncology before transferring into hospice, initially as a volunteer coordinator. While I enjoyed that job, I still felt something was missing. That’s when God led me to Gentle Shepherd where I love working more closely with patients and families and our dynamic team. Being able to share God’s word and walk this journey with our patients and families is very rewarding and inspirational.”

Susan came to us with more than 15 years of experience. She is a skilled CNA and experienced instructor for nursing students. A member of Midway Baptist Church, Susan lives in Amherst County with her husband Steve on the family farm. Her immediate family includes two sons, their wives and four grandchildren. In her spare time, Susan enjoys the farm, taking beach trips, decorating, antiquing and working in her bakery, The Farmers Wife. She can be found in her kitchen most evenings baking for her patients, neighbors and friends to cheer them up.
