“For many years I prayed that God would lead me to a position with a Christ-centered company. When I decided to take early retirement and seek God’s will for my work life, He opened the door for me here. Every day at Gentle Shepherd Hospice is fulfilling. The ministry is a blessing to me and all those who have been touched by it.

One of the things I love most about working here is that our leadership values prayer as much as I do. It meant so much to me when Kim Eckenroth asked to me manage our staff’s prayer requests, which also covers the families we serve. I email these internally throughout the week and really appreciate that, as a company, we acknowledge the power of prayer and make it a priority.”

Mary lives in Botetourt County with her husband Dan. Their family is growing with the addition of a son-in-law and the engagement of their son.

Mary enjoys serving her church by going on annual mission trips to the Dominican Republic. The 2020 trip will be her tenth. She and her husband are VT graduates of the class of ’88, die-hard Hokies and long-time football season ticket holders. They also enjoy spending time with family and friends at the beach, pool and on the river.
