We woke early this morning, at 5 a.m., threw our sweet Bella [golden retriever] in the car and decided to take a few days away for some R&R. We felt this was much needed after Don’s recent return on a 16,000 mile flight from travels in a familiar yet foreign land [Uganda].
As we have been watching the sun rays begin to peak through the night darkness, I can’t help but think about how grateful we are for the gift of Jesus to our lives. Thankfulness for the price our Savior paid to redeem our lives from darkness into light, from selfishness to a life overflowing in service to others, a life that reflects the hope and love that we will spend eternity thanking Jesus for.
My dad wrote a card for me that I keep on my desk where I can see it every day. I have written about it before. He said, “Live your life in such a way that others will want to emulate.”
The only way we can really be that type of person is to spend some time looking into the eyes and heart of Jesus. Only He can change and focus our thoughts to things that matter in life, values and ideals that are lasting and eternal. Only He can mold our lives, day by day, year by year into the type of person who reflects Him to our hurting and lonely world. The older we become, the more convinced we are that love for others is the salve of hope.
Praying the Lord guides your steps today to cross the path of someone in need that only your kindness and touch will encourage. Praying also for God’s peace, breath of encouragement to refresh your soul, and sparks of spunk to keep life fun. Safety over you and your family until you return home tonight, and every night.
