Don and Kim Eckenroth established Gentle Shepherd Hospice in December of 1994 with a vision to provide the best hospice care available to terminally ill patients and their families, and do so in a manner that exemplifies Christ’s ministry while he was on earth.

Don graduated with a BA degree from Andrews University in 1981. His background in business healthcare administration includes working as an administrator in long term care and as founder and president of a community based non-profit hospice in Southwest Virginia.

Kim’s background as a nurse includes earning a Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration from Andrews University. Her experience includes; medical surgical nursing, discharge planning, long term care, community health education and Assistant Professor at Radford University School of Nursing.  Kim is nationally board certified as a Hospice Palliative Nurse.

Together Don and Kim have overseen the operations and care of the Gentle Shepherd Hospice from the beginning. As a small family owned business, they have a personal interest in making sure you and your family receive the best care and services possible and that their staff and volunteers are a blessing and source of encouragement and hope.

The Eckenroths have been married for 32 years and have one son.
