Gentle Shepherd is a hospice serving Roanoke and Lynchburg in Virginia.

Here when you need us most.

Guided by faith and hope…making the most of every day.

The first step begins with a choice.

Patients and Families

It’s unfortunate to meet you under these circumstances, but it’s good that you’re here. There are so many ways that hospice can help your family. We’ve been where you are now countless times. You can still find hope and comfort through the medical care and compassion found in Christ-centered faith.

Let’s walk through the benefits and options that are available at no cost to your family. Then if you choose, we can take it from there.

Healthcare Professionals

Thank you for trusting your patients with our hospice care team. We welcomes the opportunity to work with you and their families help those with advanced illness remain comfortable and have the best quality of life possible. You can refer online or by calling 800-789-0586.

What Is Hospice?

HELP DETERMINING WHEN IT’S TIME

When you call, we’ll schedule a time to talk with you about when hospice services are recommended and what is covered. Should you choose to move forward, hospice care can start that day.

Same Day Admissions 24/7

SPECIALIZED HOSPICE CARE AND COMFORT

You will be cared for by a team of highly experienced healthcare professionals, many who have been with us for several years, if not decades. Your physician, a social worker, chaplain and volunteers can also serve on your care team.

FAMILY RESOURCES

In addition to being able to speak with a nurse any time day or night, your family will have access to our online e-library for family caregivers, recommended reading and downloadable resources and our blog, featuring caregiving tips, devotionals and more.

SUPPORT THROUGH GRIEF

As you begin the healing process following the death of your loved one, we will still be here for your family with grief support programs, including weekly support groups and Camp Braveheart, a summer camp for grieving youth in grades 3-12.

Let’s talk about next steps.

"Every single person that touched our mother’s life (and her family’s lives) was kind, professional, loving and Godly. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking such good care of her."

"Gentle Shepherd Grief Support has truly been a 'life-support' for me since the death of my husband two years ago. Martha, Kathy, and Staff provide a culture of information, caring, listening, and generosity. I so deeply appreciate the spiritual guidance and environment, as well as a safe place to fall, to talk, to cry, and even to laugh together.”
